Coronary Intravascular Ultrasound (IVUS)

Coronary Intravascular Ultrasound (IVUS)

During your coronary angiogram or coronary angioplasty, the operator may take the opportunity to take a closer look at the inside of your coronary arteries.

This can be performed using ultrasound. A small ultrasound probe can be passed over a very thin wire into your coronary arteries.

The additional procedure is not painful and will provide valuable information for the operator in terms of planning subsequent treatment. It does not increase the risk of the angiogram or angioplasty procedure, which remains at less than 1 in 100 risk of a serious complication developing.
